Hello My name is Amelie

Happy Tuesday!  Today, I am so pleased to introduce you to sweet little Amelie.  She's a little shy, but this pretty little yellow dress will bring her out of her shell! :)

The DP's that I used are a combination of MME and Echo Park.  When making cards, I try to buy the 6x6 paper pads.  I find that the patterns are more to scale - especially if I am paper piecing.
The decorative pin is from Maya Road and the seam binding ribbon is from MemrieMare.

Amelie and all of her friends can be found at
Whimsy and Stars Studio - instant download for your convenience! :)

Thanks for stopping by and happy creating!

Ballerina Teddy Coloring Tutorial

Hi everyone!

It`s Karen from ScrappyCanuck Studios, and I am so excited to share a project and coloring tutorial for you today!

For this project, I created a side-step card to help feature Ballerina Teddy.  The paper is from MME's My Girl collection, and you can even find a bit of Trendy Twine on there too!

When I first started working with Copics, two things scared me - reds and pleats!  So I thought I would share a little tutorial today on a way you can create a bit of dimension on Ballerina Teddy's skirt!

Step 1

Using your lightest tone, colour in the skirt completely.  I used R81.

Step 2

Using a medium tone, outline all the edges of the skirt and any lines created by layers.  This will start to build your shadows.  I used R23.

Step 3

Using the same medium tone, add in a triangle shape in the spots on the skirt where the layer lined curve down.

Step 4

Switch back to your lightest tone and and blend the two colours together to soften the look of the shadows.

Step 5

Using a darker tone (I used RV29), add in a slightly smaller triangle shape over top of the one you created with your medium tone.  It needs o be smaller to give the impression of depth.  go along the top edge of the skirt where the pleats are drawn and add small streaks of this colour as well.

Step 6

For the waist band, start by colouring in the whole band with your lightest colour.  Working in from the left and right side, add some medium tone stopping about 3/4 of the way to the middle.  Repeat with the darkest tone stopping no more than half way to the middle point.  If you have visible lines where the colours layered, blend out with your lightest tone.

Step 7

Colour in the body suit with your lightest tone.

Step 8

Outline all the edges with your medium tone.

Step 9

Using the tip of your marker, add a narrow line of your darkest tone around all edges.

Step 10

Blend the layers of colour together with your lightest tone.

There you have it!  A cute little dress with a bit of dimension!  You can use the same strategy with any colour - just remember to start light and work to dark (and don't be afraid of high contrast tones).
Thanks for popping by today!

My "Art On-the-Go" Bag

Posie-mro-7-2013-Whimsy-and

I just love to paint with my watercolors and doodle tiny cute children. But as a working mom (of two wonderful teens) I find it hard sometimes to find time during my day to work on my art.

One of the things that really has helped me is to find little pockets of time in my day to make some quick sketches and capture some ideas in paper. I often work on new concepts for new illustrations or stamp designs while I'm away from my studio.

I have an "Art-on the Go" tote bag that I carry with me everywhere I go. Inside I keep all of my most used (and portable) art supplies.

Web-Water-roses-Mabelle-RO

Here are the supplies you would find inside my art bag...
Sk38384
Sakura Koi Watercolor Field Box Set - 24 Color Palette + Waterbrush Pen.
Prismacolors
Prismacolor Colored Pencils

0d24e7880c9e98d31b34494ec7c43418
Sakura Pigma Micron Pens

Unnamed
Canson Black Sketch Book Hardbound

Pencils
Pentel Twist Erase III 0.5mm Automatic Pencils

If you are like me, trying to carve some creative time in your already busy life, I encourage you to make yourself a little "on the go" kit. Having your creative supplies accesible anytime it does help to keep all those creative juices flowing!

I wish you all a wonderful & artsy weekend!

Life Itself is a Most Wonderful Fairy Tale. . .

I love having a daughter!  From the time I knew I was having a girl, I was so excited for all things princess.  She is almost 17 now, but she will always be my little girl and as a mom, I think I will always be drawn to princesses. . .

That being said, I am thrilled to feature a recent image from Whimsy & Stars Studio. . .her name is Little Princess.

Instant Download Digi Stamp: Little Princess
And here is my card using this sweet image. . .

I printed the image on white cardstock and colored her with Copic markers.  I then printed the image a second time on pattern paper and paper pieced her dress.  The sentiment is a quote from Hans Christian Andersen, whose stories I adore.

Be sure to check out the blog daily for updates and creations from the entire Whimsy & Stars Studio Design Team!

Happy Tuesday!

Blessed Harvest

My apologies this is getting posted so late in the day. Sometimes it's very hard to get good light here in the PNW (I see a light box in my future) and I'm not OK posting an average picture of Mabelle's gorgeous images.

I've really been excited for Fall to arrive. I'm excited for the crisp air and changing leaves. Oregon is a picture postcard year round, but the Fall is absolutely stunning. Hence the reason for my Fall inspired card today.

I chose the Blessed Harvest  image for my card and I just love it. I finally dug out some Fall/Halloween paper I'd been saving. I really wanted to make a fun card that focused on the image, so I chose to use muted greys with a bit of orange to go along with the pumpkins. I kept it neutral with twine and a brown button, added a small sentiment and a few rhinestones for some flair. This card layout was taken from page 73 of Cardmaker Summer 2013 magazine. All of the instructions and measurements are included (love this) and it came together very quick (love this more).

Remember all of the Whimsy & Stars Studio images are available for immediate download.

I hope you are having a blessed Sunday♥

BOY BIRTHDAY CARD

Hi everyone!  It's Audrey from the DT here with you today.  I am a wee bit later than hoped because I did get a new computer on Thursday and finally begun installing everything yesterday, but I am on Windows 8 now and ALL the programs that I used before are different and it is taking me a bit to figure everything out.   I am having tons of trouble with the picture editor and blogging stuff:(

Anyway, today I am sharing Birthday Wish which you can find at WHIMSY AND STARS STUDIO SHOP and it's available for Instant Download - woo hoo!!  I never have enough birthday cards for boys and this image is just perfect for a masculine birthday card!

I have colored this cute image with Copics, and cut out with scissors.  I added Marvy Liquid Applique for the frosting trim on the cake.  Papers are from a 6 X 6 pack which I think is Glitz Papers.  I added SEI buttons at the bottom and Bag O Buttons buttons on top.  Circles are cut and embossed with Nesties.  Sentiment is from PaperTrey Ink and cut out with Nestie.  I hope you like it and remember, you can find Birthday Wish  and all the other of Mabelle's FABULOUS images at WHIMSY AND STARS STUDIO SHOP.

Hugs!!

Summertime Fun Encore!

Greetings friends and followers!  I'm sharing another card today designed by Mabelle and sold at the Craft's Meow.  I just love these fun summertime kitties!  This makes me want to grab my pail and shovel and head to the beach.

Summertime Fun

I made this for my oldest granddaughter's birthday, she's quite the cat lover!  I colored this cutie with my Copic markers and used this summery patterned paper from  Little Yellow Bicycle, "Making Waves".    I used my Creative Memories wave border punch, cut a frame with my Cricut and added these adorable buttons from Michael's.

Thanks for visiting today!
